'The Old Kafenion'

The guesthouse "The Old Kafenion" is an old and historical Cretan building and offers 3 double guestrooms.

The building dates from more than 100 years ago and has a typical Cretan architecture.

During the restoration in the summer of 2005, we kept the architecture

and a lot of decorative elements from that period.

Until 50 years ago the house was used as the local Kafenion (Coffee Shop) due to its central place in the village, just in front of the small church.

The 3 guestrooms are situated in the lower part of the building.

Each room is about 25 m2 and is very comfortable.

The temperature in the rooms remains very nice during the whole year due to the thick walls
but there is also air conditioning in each guestroom for the warmest days and nights.

Room Alfa has a very typical character due to the remaining open fireplace (decorative feature).
In this room, the bed is built on top of the old winepress which creates a special atmosphere.

The bathroom has a shower, toilet and wash hand basin.

This room has in front a very cosy garden, perfect to spend the evening.

Room Vita has a special feeling due to the high ceiling.

It is a spacious room with two entrances, one from the front garden and

one from the back garden.

The bathroom with bathtub has a special design and is very decorative

with the remaining stone built wall.

Room Gamma is accessible only from the garden.

The room has a typical Cretan wooden ceiling and

some of the original stone wall is unchanged.

The bathroom has a shower, toilet and wash hand basin.

The arch in the bathroom and the special design of the room

gives this guestroom a very special character.

Finally, we have the walled garden which is 450 m2.

It is illuminated in the evening and comprises of the swimming pool

where you can plunge into the refreshing water, a seating area and a covered dining area.

There are also sun beds and parasols. 

From the garden you can take the steps to the terrace

where you can enjoy the scenic views and the beautiful sunsets.

Occasionally, in the evening, you can join us at our 'open table' for dinner.

This will be charged separately.

It gives you the opportunity to taste the local home made food.

To prepare the dishes, we only use fresh local ingredients and the real Cretan olive oil.

As this is a small scale B&B, we can offer our guests a very personal service.

For those of you who adore cooking, you may assist us in the kitchen.

If you like walking or discovering the area by car,

we can also advise on the various walks and routes to assist you.

Also climbing Mount Psiloritis is another possibility.

To assist you from the airport of Heraklion to Lagolio,

we can arrange a taxi for you which will bring you direct to us. 

We can then arrange for your hire car to be delivered to you here in Lagolio.

However, should you prefer, we can also arrange for the hire car to be at the airport on your arrival.
